At the time my friend had a TSR-8 and the Otari was a much better sounding machine and seemed to have a better build quality as well. I haven't used one since the 1990s, but it was a solid machine. If you look around you can get an MX5050 for around the same amount as a TSR8 or 80-8. You aren't comparing apples to apples.
